sequence analysis of fusion gene of newcastle disease viruses isolated from ostrich (struthio camelus) in iran, 2012
Authors
abstract
background and aims: newcastle disease virus (ndv) infection have been established in at least 241species of birds representing 27 of the 50 orders of the class.ndv isolate were obtained from infected ostrich flock during the outbreaks of nd in iran 2012. the f gene fragment which codes the main functional region of the f protein was obtained by rt-pcr and sequenced. methods: from the pathotype prediction based on the cleavage site of the fusion protein, this isolate was placed into the velogenic group with the motif 112 rrqkrf 117. results: phylogenetic analysis based on a partial f gene sequence showed that the isolates from ostrich cluster together with concurrent isolates from poultry in iran within the sub genotype viid, which is the predominant pathogen involved currently in newcastle disease outbreaks in poultry worldwide. conclusion: this study adds to the understanding of the ecology of ndv in ostrich and emphasizes the need for constant surveillance in times of an ongoing and expanding epidemic of ndv. this finding is essential for improving the disease control strategies and development of vaccines for nd.

full textPerspective on Possible Recombination Event in Fusion Protein Gene of Newcastle Disease Viruses Isolated in Iran
Background and Aims: Newcastle disease (ND), caused by the virulent Newcastle disease virus (NDV), is one of the most important viral diseases in birds. In recent years recombination occurring throughout the NDVs genome isolated in China and Indonesia has been reported. This study was focused to investigate the recombination events in the F gene of the Iranian NDVs to generate useful data that ...

Introduction of ostrich (Struthio camelus domesticus), a new exotic host species to a new ecosystem likeIran, necessitates the study of its infectious diseases including parasitic infestations. For a period of one year, from 2002–03, faecal samples of 254 ostriches on 5 farms located at different parts of Iran, includingGarmsar, Semnan province (n = 85); Nashtaroud, Mazandaran province (n = 29)...
full textNeuraminidase gene sequence analysis of avian influenza H9N2 viruses isolated from Iran
Influenza A viruses possesses two virion surface glycoproteins including haemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA). The NA plays an important role in viral replication and promotes virus release from infected cells and facilitates virus spread throughout the body. To find out any genomic changes that might be occurred on NA gene of avian influenza circulating viruses, we have genetically analy...
full textMolecular characterization of haemagglutinin-neuraminidase gene among virulent Newcastle disease viruses isolated in Iran
Background: Virulent Newcastle disease virus (vNDV) causes great economic losses to the poultry industry throughout the world. Despite the endemicity of Newcastle disease (ND) and occurrence of recurrent outbreaks, the nature and genetic features of circulating NDV strains in Iran are largely unknown. Aims: This study was conducted to characterize 13 NDV isolat...
